Berber
The name refers to the natural flecked appearance of the carpet. Berber is
excellent for high-traffic areas—it can stand a lot of wear and tear. It's
extremely popular because it's durable and less formal. While berbers used
to come only in shades of off-white and beige, now new, colorful tones
are available.
Saxony/Plush
This is smooth, dense carpet that's soft to walk on. Saxonies with smooth
finishes are called plushes. Both have an elegant look and are very comfortable
and versatile. Some saxonies are known as velvets, which are usually used
in more formal settings.
Sculptured/Cut & Loop
This carpet has a sculptured look because some of the loops are cut and appear
higher than the others. This style hides wear and tear and footprints, so it's
ideal for active families.
Contemporary Shag and Cable
Some brand new styles of shag carpet are now available. These are slightly
similar to the shag carpet of the 1970s, only with a more contemporary look
and exciting new textures. They come in a range of popular colors, many with
a "natural" berber flecked look.
